Wanted to share how the Biletnikoff Foundations Monte Carlo Night was. I can't remember all the many details but here is some of it...
An hour or so before the event in the courtyard of the Marriott, which the hotel was beautiful with fantastic service, Fred Biletnikoff, the Hazmat Boyz and I were out having a smoke, laughing, joking and having a great time.
At the event, security was tight. It looked like 30 secret service agents were working the event lol.
At check in , I was in line behind Coach Cable, who is much taller than I thought and he was smaller than his 17 year old son. I approached the VIP table (no I wasn't on that list) to greet a friend that works for the Raiders.
Once we entered the first room, it was filled with close to 70 silent auction items. To give you an idea, there was a ball signed by 45 Hall of Famers, many, many signed jerseys, balls, custom artwork, Ali signed gloves, just a lot of awesome items.
During the silent auction, friend of the RFC, Dj Dino was doing the music then the Hazmat Boyz performed Total Eclipse which if you haven't heard it, find it on you tube because it is the new Raider anthem. They have played it in the stadium the last 3 home games.
The event wasn't really a photo and autograph event or I would have more pics for you guys. Sorry.
Moving into the main hall there were celebs and pro athletes EVERYWHERE.
They had food, hand rolled cigars, jewelers, of course the bar, Raiderettes and other finely dressed young woman roaming the event to assist people.
We took a table to eat, the tables were small and barely fit four plates on them, but that worked out fine as we were joined by Denise Tatum, Jacks widow, MacArthur Lane (chiefs pro bowler) and his wife Edna. Fantastic people and we had a great time with them.
There was a dance floor. While people were filling the room (and it was large) a quartet singing oldies, was in the crowd serenading the women.
On one wall was the podium and half of the room was casino tables including two craps tables and 4 poker tables. It was a very social event. Here is just a small sample of the people that attended. Fred Biletnikoff, Bobby Bell, Cliff Branch, Ricky Brown, Willie Brown, Raymond Chester, Jon Condo, Clem Daniels, Ben Davidson, Mark Davis, DHB, Rod Martin, Chester McGlockton, Mike Merriweather, Louis Murphy, Chaz Shilens, Coach Cable, the coaching staff. Tom Flores, Joey Porter, Carl Weathers, Nick Miller. Really there is a lot more but I cant remember.
Out gambling (all of it was for fun and fund-raising for the Biletnikoff Foundation) I was playing craps and was talking to DHB and spent 45 minutes chatting and teaching him to play. Great, humble and a really nice guy. On my other side was Rod Martin. We played for about an hour, talking about football, his work, the event and the dice. Good times indeed.
They also had a live auction.
The night wound down with a raffle and trophies being handed out for the winner of the poker tournament (the trophies were over 5 feet tall). The girl that won multiple items at this years RFC was the winner of the tournament. That girl has the winners mojo for sure.
Met some fantastic people, had a great time and next years event will be during the RFC weekend. You do not want to miss it!
